French Living.

We did it!.... We moved to France, sold the house, packed up and left, just like that. Covid caused me to lose my job for 19 month, that is along time to think and to get your priorities in order, time to realize that we would be better off somewhere else where life slows down so we can enjoy it more. We picked occitanie in the south of France as our new homeland. Occitanie is just perfect, we are at the foothills of the pyrenees montains a stone throw away from spain, the mediterranean and the ski slopes, not too hot in summer, not too cold in winter.

Decorating by giving a second life to objects

In our region, Occitanie there are still a lot of treasures to be found, I mean that I love to use the objects I find at flea markets, garage sales. Moving from the USA means that you cannot bring much with you, a big crisis touched the oversea transport and it became very expensive to ship a container to Europe. So we came back with only some suitcases shipped ahead of time. Our new house became a blank canvas, of course my family had already gathered the essentials for us before we arrived and I spent countless hours antiquing to find waht I needed to create my cosy interior that you may call French country with a touch of ecclectic. I will share with you some of it on this page.

Old kitchen cupboard that I white washed. It is a nice place to display my baskets out of the way.

Mirrors, Mirrors on the walls

I know, I have a lot of mirrors, my family comment on it every time I come back from my antiquing outings with another mirror. I just can't help it they are so pretty, each with its own personality and style, by now my house is starting to run out of walls to accomodate them all. Here I show you some of my favorites.

Repurposing old objects

When you like old objects it is nice to put them to good use. I use an old Milk jug by the front door to store canes and umbrellas,  they can also be used to display big bouquets of flowers or  dry wheat  picked on the side of the country roads ( my favorite).

An old enamelled water jug became also a vase to decorate a cute corner and a small oak ladder found at the flea market will now be a shelf to hold my throws

Kitchen decor

A beautiful fine tea pot which lost its lid will now hold my kitchen utensils and brighten my kitchen. right nex to my great aunt jars.

All those light colored pichers and tea makers found their place on top of my kitchen cabinet to fill the awkwardly big space between the cabinets and the cieling.
